Design
for Print
Print is very much alive. It’s a great means of communicating that has real permanence. We’ve all been given something printed that continually seems to reappear on our desk or table!
Artwork created for printed media can be repurposed and sent to prospective clients & customers via email or used on your website for digital download.
I get asked to design all sorts for print. From standard things like A4 sized presentation packs and signs for shops to more niche things like beer bottle labels and even clothing.

Case study 1
A4
Brochure design.

-
Design and organise the printing of a brochure for Buckingham Plant Hire to distribute during trade shows, meetings and events. They had a small amount of content and therefor asked me take photos of machinery at various sites around the UK to bolster the brochure.
-
> Layout and design of a 24 page brochure
> Copy-writing in parts of the brochure
> Photos: I took all of large photos of machinery in the brochure
> Liaising with the company’s preferred printer -
As ever, timeframes were tight as the brochures were needed for a trade-show that was already booked… three weeks before they asked me to start works! We hit the deadline.
-
As a result of this brochure, Buckingham Plant Hire asked me to create pop-up banners and flags to give their stand at future trade-shows more presence.
Case study 2
Beer
Bottle
Labels.
-
Design a set of beer bottle labels for five of Blackpit Brewery’s beers.
I’ve included this example, because the legal requirements for what information needs to be displayed on beer bottles is quite in-depth and, as a result, the design work is quite difficult. You have to display certain symbols at certain sizes and certain text (such as the ingredients) needs to be a minimum size with specific details (such as allergens) in bold.
On top of all this, they need to look good too!
-
> Design a set of 5 x beer bottle labels
> Ensure artwork complied with legal requirements.
> Copy-writing
> Liaising with the printer -
1 month for design of 1st batch
-
I did all of the design for Blackpit Brewery, so there was a lot of follow up jobs including design of clothing, posters, the website (including the webshop element)
